What is green tea?

In the Netherlands, green tea is one of the most popular teas. And with good reason! Because the tea leaves are immediately heated after harvesting, many healthy nutrients are preserved. The oxidation process is also stopped immediately, so that the leaves do not discolour and they retain their green colour. Hence the name. Green tea, unlike black tea, has a light taste, which makes it more pleasant to drink for many people.

The benefits of green tea

Of all the teas available, green tea leaves contain the most antioxidants and natural polyphenols. These substances ensure that green tea is anti-inflammatory. Which is then good for your skin and digestion.

Green tea also contains a lower dose of caffeine than black tea. But it still contains enough to give you a nice energy boost after drinking a cup of green tea. But be careful with the amount of green tea you drink if you can't handle caffeine very well or if you are pregnant. So, although there is less of this substance in the tea, it is still there.

Making green tea

Did you know that green tea can taste bitter if you make it with water that is too hot? Water that is too hot brings out a reaction in the tea leaves, which can give off a bitter taste. The advice is therefore to first let your just boiled water cool down to about 70 to 80 degrees Celsius, before adding the tea. In a glass this takes about 2 minutes.
